Have you wondered why some people can get in front of an audience and have the time of their lives... while you suffer anxiety, self-doubt and a crushing lack of confidence?

Listen up, my friend:

There's no mystery to the "secret sauce" that allows some speakers to completely enjoy themselves on stage (in-person OR virtual), connect with the audience, and leave a lasting impression.

But it's not something you can see or touch. It's something that happens on the inside, a mental approach that - when you adopt it - changes everything.

Do you ever imagine what it would be like to face an audience with confidence and joy?

Do you fantasize about how awesome it would be to take the stage and speak with ease?

Do you wish you could have the kind of connection with an audience where you give them your energy and you feel it coming back to you?

Do you envision how powerful your message could be to those who need and want it?

Unfortunately, your reality is more like this:

You're never fully prepared to speak.

Your mind swirls with all the things that could go wrong once you get on stage.

You fear that you'll be boring, dry, monotonous, and make no impact whatsoever on your audience.

You lack confidence in your abilities and feel certain that you'll never be able to engage an audience - especially in a virtual environment.

You're positive that the audience can tell how nervous and anxious you are - which makes you more nervous and anxious.

Because of all these negative thoughts and beliefs, you...

avoid speaking

avoid offering your unique gifts, story, perspective and transformational message to the world, and

stay hidden out of fear and self-doubt.

Here's the good news:

It's all in your head!

How do I know this? Because I used to let those negative thoughts overwhelm me, too.

I'm Lisa Braithwaite. I'm a public speaking coach, corporate trainer, and author.

When I started speaking in high school classrooms almost 30 years ago, in my first community outreach position with a nonprofit, I was terrified.

Teenagers, if you've never given a presentation to them... well, let's just say that they're a tough audience.

I had all the same doubts that you have...

I wasn't going to be able to keep their attention.

I was going to mess up and embarrass myself.

They were going to laugh at me (either out loud or in their heads).

Or worse than laughing at me, they were going to be mean and rude to me!

But I didn't have a choice. I couldn't say no. This was a part of my job, so I jumped in with both feet and I never looked back.

Throughout the years I spent giving presentations in high school and middle school classrooms, my content didn't change much. My delivery didn't change much. My personality and style didn't change at all!

I'm still very much the same person I was in my 20s, and I still deliver the same energy and the same passion to my audiences now, although I speak on different topics.

Why did I stop being terrified? What changed?

My attitude. My thoughts. My beliefs.

My mindset.

And I'll teach you how to change yours in my free workshop:

"Thanks so much, Lisa. I loved "Strive for Connection, not Perfection" and the way you kept us engaged with asking questions/opinions/filling in polls. Teaching us through doing to focus more on the audience than ourselves - sooooo gooood!

It definitely makes sense to focus on my strengths and accentuate those while being loudly and proudly authentically ME!!!

Thanks again and all the best. YOU ROCK!!"

So much of a speaker's success stems from having the right mindset.

Sure, having great content, solid delivery and presentation skills will get you part of the way to a successful presentation.

But that special something that your audience believes, engages and connects with: It's all mental!

In this free workshop, we'll talk about the following mindset issues:

What exactly IS your mindset?

How is this affecting your effectiveness as a speaker?

What are some of the most powerful mindset approaches of successful speakers?

And how you can change your mindset so that you can take the stage with confidence, joy and gratitude?

I'll give you six mindset shifts and six action steps that will take you to a higher level as a speaker and ensure that your time on stage is enjoyable, productive and profitable!

These mindset shifts will not only improve your speaking, but - when you apply them more widely - will make you a better leader and more confident in all areas of your life.

Edith in yellow sweater"Thank you for your presentation last week, loved your energy and colourful presence!
Implemented: Step 6 – Stop substituting learning for doing.

Action: My role within Rotary is Leadership Development Chair and the gift of COVID19 has been the delivery via Zoom platform and bringing people into this new mode/space for delivery of learning. I knew I had the skills to do this differently as it had never been done before.

Self-doubts had to be overcome but am grateful for the key learnings I have gained…and the opportunity to be the change in this space for our district."
